The features in Feelment's karaoke service are designed to delight both the singing enthusiast at the restaurant and the karaoke host. With a library of over 65,000 songs, there's something to sing for everyone, as proven by the karaoke sing-along numbers; Feelment's karaoke was sung over 2.4 million times in the year 2022. But what other information is hidden behind the karaoke program? We delved into our statistics gathered throughout 2022 and compiled a comprehensive package about the past year in karaoke and the most popular karaoke tracks.

Sing counts in figures

During the year 2022, karaoke was sung a total of 2,426,476 times. The majority were Finnish songs, sung a remarkable 1,709,341 times. In English, karaoke was sung to 592,919 songs. Among other languages, Italian songs gained popularity, possibly influenced by the Eurovision 2021-winning band Måneskin. At least the Italian-language Eurovision song 'Zitti e Buoni' by the rock band was sung in karaoke quite frequently. Our other national language, Swedish, reached the fourth position on the list of most sung languages.

The most sung karaoke songs in 2022

The Finnish people have spoken again – or more accurately, sung – revealing the best karaoke songs of all time. The most sung karaoke songs of 2022 turned out to be familiar tunes from our previous TOP lists of recent years. Domestic songs maintained their popularity with Finnish determination, leaving little room for foreign songs once again.

The most sung song of the year was the classic hit 'Matkustaja' by Egotrippi, a surprising choice as commented by our Marketing Manager Valtteri to Helsingin Sanomat. Journalist Piritta Räsänen wonders if the melancholic atmosphere might have been influenced by the pandemic. Besides Helsingin Sanomat, Yle also published an article on the most sung karaoke songs of the past year, and Feelment's statistics were also a part of this piece.

The most sung karaoke songs during holidays/festive seasons

Although the most sung karaoke songs throughout the year maintain their popularity, there are also noticeable vibes brought by festive seasons reflected in the lists. For example, on May Day in 2022, the Finnish folks were singing along to JVG's 'Ikuinen Vappu,' while during the summer holidays, the mood was set with Ramses II's 'Villieläin' and Rauli Badding Somerjo's 'Paratiisi.'

As the Ice Hockey World Championships culminated in the victory of the Lions on May 29, 2022, people in Finland gathered at the square to celebrate with traditional fervor. We examined whether the hockey frenzy influenced the most sung karaoke songs, and it's evident - the victory at the Ice Hockey World Championships has been celebrated by singing triumphant songs. The boy has definitely been in the sauna! (Reference to an "inside" Finnish joke, meaning when a winner teams takes their trophy, which is referred to as boy, to the sauna with them).

The festive season towards the end of the year has brought its own vibe to the karaoke scene. Unlike other seasons, the atmosphere has perhaps been a bit more sinful, as Erika Vikman's 'Syntisten Pöytä' made its way into the TOP 10 most sung songs throughout December. As the Christmas holidays approached, karaoke enthusiasts had already had their fill of Christmas songs, as none of the most popular songs during Christmas included a single Christmas carol.

What does the year 2023 look like in karaoke?

The beginning of this decade was as stressful for karaoke as the year 1979 was for Vicky Rost. 'At first, I was scared, I was thrown off balance' truly reflects the feeling brought by the pandemic. Fortunately, for karaoke, as for Vicky Rost, better days arrived, and the song 'Oon voimissain' ('I'm in good shape') aptly depicts the current mood.

The year 2023 looks extremely promising for karaoke. Increased enthusiasm for singing has emerged with the evolution of trends and technology, as discussed in our previous blog post. Additionally, karaoke production has started to recover from the effects of the pandemic, evident in Feelment's in-house karaoke production. In our production, we purely focus on customers' requested songs, which can be submitted through our website at www.feelment.com/karaoketoive. Therefore, in the upcoming year, Feelment's karaoke offerings will continue to expand - so let's get singing!
