The FIFA World Cup is one of the most-watched sporting events in the world, offering restaurants, bars, and terraces an excellent opportunity to attract customers and boost sales. The 2026 tournament, held in the summer, will captivate both passionate football fans and casual viewers looking for enjoyable ways to spend summer days. This article covers everything you need to know: when the 2026 World Cup will be played, which channels will broadcast the matches, and how to show the games in your restaurant.

When is the FIFA World Cup 2026 played?

The FIFA World Cup will take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026. The tournament will be hosted across three countries: the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Due to time zone differences, many matches will be played in the evening and late at night for Finnish viewers, making them ideal programming for restaurants and summer terraces. The month-long tournament provides restaurants with an opportunity to create long-running themed evenings, viewing events, and recurring activities that encourage customers to return again and again.

Half of the matches on MTV and half on Yle

Yle and MTV will jointly broadcast the FIFA World Cup, each showing half of the tournament’s matches. According to an MTV News article, the broadcasters will alternate live match days, switching at the start of each matchday. MTV will air the opening day matches, with Yle continuing the following day. For the tournament finale, MTV will broadcast the third-place match, while Yle will show the final.

Restaurant checklist for the World Cup

Summer is a busy time for restaurants, with terrace weather, holidays, and the World Cup keeping things lively. To make preparations easier, here’s a quick checklist:

Sport package activated

Sufficiently fast Internet connection

Video connections working on all screens

Tournament ads added on TV displays

Promotion shared on the restaurant's social media

Sport package for showing the World Cup

Subscribing to a sports package before the tournament makes everything much easier. Through Feelment, you can get public viewing rights for the FIFA World Cup – including both MTV Sports and Yle broadcasts. If you’re already an MTV Sports business customer through us, you can show all World Cup matches with your current subscription.

💡 Yle broadcasts are included in all Feelment subscriptions at no additional cost. If Yle channels are not visible in your Feelment app, contact us.

You don’t need to subscribe to MTV Sports for a full year just for the tournament. Feelment offers a FIFA World Cup event package tailored to businesses. This package includes all matches and the full MTV Sports content for the duration of the tournament.

For many restaurants, this event package is a cost-effective solution, providing access to all tournament content in one agreement, along with plenty of additional sports programming. While the World Cup alone draws large crowds, the broader sports offering gives customers more reasons to spend time at your venue beyond the matches.

Another major benefit is Feelment’s technical support, available daily from 9 AM to 11 PM. Reliable support provides peace of mind — after all, nothing ruins a match night quite like technical issues. The package also includes ready-made marketing materials to help attract customers quickly and easily.

Internet connection

Before the tournament begins, check your internet connection. A buffering stream is every sports fan’s (and staff member’s) worst nightmare. We recommend using a wired Ethernet connection whenever possible, as it ensures the most stable performance. For streaming sports, your internet speed should be at least 10 Mbps per stream. For example, showing three matches simultaneously requires at least 30 Mbps.

Using a customer Wi-Fi network is not recommended. The more people share the same connection, the slower it becomes for everyone. If you rely on a 4G connection, measure your speed between 7 PM and 11 PM to get a realistic understanding of performance during peak hours.

💡 Tip: You can test your internet speed easily online.

Video connection

Checking your setup before the tournament is also essential. We recommend connecting your computer to the TV using an HDMI cable. If the cable run exceeds 10 meters, you’ll need an active HDMI cable. If you want to display the same broadcast on multiple screens, you’ll need an HDMI matrix or splitter. These ensure that all displays stay synchronized.

Feelment broadcasts can also be streamed wirelessly using Google TV. This service is built into Android TVs (version 12 or newer). Once Google TV is available, you can install the Feelment TV app and stream content wirelessly.

Did it get too complicated? No worries! We are happy to help with anything related to technology. You can call us every day of the year from 9 AM to 11 PM at +358 29 1234 122.

💡 Tip: Turn on your screens before launching the Feelment app to improve connection detection.

Promote the tournament in your venue

Sometimes, in the excitement of attracting new customers, we forget the most valuable audience — our existing customers. Make sure to advertise the World Cup inside your venue so regulars know when to come.

Moving visuals attract more attention than static images, so it’s best to promote matches on TV screens. You can easily display ads using Feelment’s free Advertising service, which includes ready-made World Cup promotional materials.

Don't forget the power of social media

The easiest way to market the World Cup is by using ready-made materials. Feelment sends social media ads to event package subscribers and MTV Sports customers before the tournament. Materials are also available in our Material Bank.

If you create your own ads, keep in mind that images from Google cannot be used, and adding the MTV Sports logo is not permitted. You can design your own promotions using original images, as long as you avoid using sports package logos. If you’re unsure about ad usage, feel free to contact us.
