The most dedicated Christmas fans start playing holiday tunes well ahead of time, but by December just about everyone begins to warm up to the classic end-of-year songs. And really, what better way to get into the festive spirit than by singing Christmas songs at karaoke? But which holiday tracks are actually the biggest hits among Finnish karaoke lovers? Do people prefer fresh seasonal pop or timeless classics? We decided to dig into Feelmentâs karaoke statistics to find out.
The most popular Christmas karaoke songs
We took a closer look at the Christmas songs Finns have sung the most in karaoke over the past couple of years. The top ten consisted mainly of beautiful classics, with traditional Finnish Christmas songs standing out in various versions. Still, one English-language song made it into the TOP 10: Last Christmas.
- Varpunen Jouluaamuna
- Tulkoon Joulu
- SydÀmeeni Joulun Teen
- Sylvian Joululaulu
- Joulumaa
- Taivas SylissÀni
- Avaruus
- Last Christmas
- Tonttu
- Petteri Punakuono
Have the most popular Christmas karaoke songs changed over the years?
Out of curiosity, we compared the most-sung holiday tracks from recent years to the stats from five years ago. The evergreen classics have held their ground regardless of the year, meaning songs like SydÀmeeni Joulun Teen, Varpunen Jouluaamuna, Joulumaa, Sylvian Joululaulu, and Tulkoon Joulu have appeared among the favorites every single year.
There have been small shifts, though. For example, five years ago the most popular list included Walking in the Air, Sika, and Maa On Niin Kaunis. Over the past couple of years, these songs have disappeared from the TOP 10. Walking in the Air has essentially just been replaced by its Finnish version, Avaruus.
One song, however, has clearly grown in popularity. Taivas SylissĂ€ni (Himlen i min famn), translated into Finnish in 2001, has really found its place in Finnish hearts and is now heard more often both in karaoke and as background music. Perhaps its rise in popularity has something to do with artist Ilta releasing her own version in 2024? Whatever the reason, this beautiful song has definitely earned its spot in the TOP 10 â at least if you ask me, since Taivas SylissĂ€ni also happens to be my personal Christmas karaoke favorite.
